The I-85 Widening project will provide relief to motorists in this heavily congested area by widening I-85 from two to three lanes in both directions from SR 53 to just north of US 129. Additional work on the project includes replacing one overpass bridge and six mainline bridges along I-85. Engineering, Environmental, Design, Right-of-Way 2016-2024 Final Design, Construction 2024-2028 P.I. Number: 0013545 What’s the Project Status? • Scheduled to begin procurement in 2025 • Construction anticipated to begin in 2025.

5 Things You Need to Know

1. The project adds new lane miles on I-85 with new lanes built into the median.
2. Preliminary cost estimate for the project is approximately $305 million.
3. No right of way will be acquired as part of the project. Additionally, no interchange work is proposed as part of the project.
4. The bridge replacements will require temporary detours. The Georgia DOT plans to mitigate impacts to the public as much as possible and communicate early with the public. The bridges being replaced are more than 50 years old.
5. The project takes place in Jackson County.
